History & Lineage (Kobudo)

Below is a graphical depiction of the Kobudo (traditional Okinawan weaponry) lineage of Shintokukai President & Technical Director: David Walker Renshi (for Karate lineage, please click here) as established and passed down through his teacher, Kikukawa Kyoshi in the ancient keishou tradition (keishou: individually inherited succession of knowledge from master to student). From Shinken Taira Sensei, the founder of Ryukyu Kobudo Hozon Shinkokai, arguably the most prominent and influential Kobudo master of all time, to his senior student, Katsuhiko Minowa Sensei (an early contemporary of Akamine Sensei) through on to the widely respected Masakazu Kinjo Sensei, the founder of Ryukyu Kobudo Hozonkai and the organization of which we are an international member, we are proud to preserve the traditions of an illustrious Kobudo lineage.
